Access is by a short set of picturesque external stone steps. This slightly elevated situation of the living accommodation gives a pleasant view over the hamlet of Outgate and the surrounding fells. The bus between Ambleside, Hawkshead and Coniston stops near the flat.
Barn End is set in the attractive hamlet of Outgate, in the heart of Southern Lakeland. It is not far from Hawkshead (nearest shops), (Ambleside and the Langdale Valley). It is a few minutes walk from the Outgate Inn which offers a warm Lakeland welcome, lunchtime and evening meals. The shores of Lake Windermere, the Drunken Duck (a famous Lakeland hostelry which serves excellent food), Wray Castle and Tarn Hows are all only about two miles away.
There are many local walks starting from the flat, a nearby tarn with a nature reserve, and mountain peaks for the more energetic visitor. Barn End is convenient for exploring central Lakeland and Beatrix Potter country.
